Information is Beautiful has been visualising the world’s data, information and knowledge since 2009.
Founded by UK author, designer and journalist David McCandless, IIB experiments with topics, visualisations, platforms and audiences to create a steady stream of beautiful, truthful graphics across many diverse topics and subject areas.
We’re looking for a creative and experienced editor / producer to work closely alongside and support David across the whole creative operation at IIB.
That means: Running and updating the website. Researching data and ideas. Creating and scheduling social content. Writing blog posts, social copy and proposals. Spearheading and producing creative projects. Supporting workshops, events and other sources of revenue. Generally being on top of and mucking in with everything we do, across our self-initiated, commercial, or not-for-profit projects. In any format: digital, print, installation etc.
Despite our graphically designed output, IIB work is distinctly journalistic in origin and process – concept or story-driven, heavy on research, multi-perspectival, balanced and structured to empower audiences to make their own minds up about topics.
We’ll need someone with a strong editorial, story-driven background, a range of different interest areas and an unslakeable thirst for learning more. Someone enthusiastic about developing, sharing and spreading ideas.
We’re looking for someone who is…
: experienced in story-driven environment (pref. journalism) – at least 5 years
: a strong, versatile writer (with clips, examples)
: digital-savvy – is comfortable with social, web, media
: familiar with information is beautiful’s work and ethos
: likes our work and wants to see it shared and amplified
: interested in story-telling through graphics & visualization
: hell, loves the idea communicating complex stories through graphics
: passionate about journalism, facts, truth and beauty
: interested in design / visualisation or code
: self-motivating, independent and able to work remotely

: attended one of our workshops or events
: enthusiastic (demonstrable) interest in IIB
: demonstrable interest in data-visualisation / infographics
Core duties / responsibilities
: shepherd projects, content, copy & graphics along a defined creative process to completion
: write, manage and schedule social media content
: maintain and schedule our existing database of social content
: research diverse topics & quiz experts where necessary
: research, gather, tidy & clean data and information
: some editorial writing (blog posts, tweets, newsletters)
: develop & hone proposals and concepts
: liaise with occasional clients, customers, colleagues and collaborators
: maintain quality control, tone of voice and editorial character of IIB
: promote and support revenue-generating activities and projects
: help with hiring future team members & freelancers
: attend events and conferences to represent IIB
What we offer
: Either a pro-rata salary of £60,000 per year (~$80K / €70K)
: Or a freelance day-rate approx £250 p/d ($325 / €300)
